ADL Launches No Place For HateĀ® With School-Wide Assemblies

Date: September 26, 2011

Three elementary schools in the South Euclid/Lyndhurst school district launched ADL’s No Place for Hate Initiative with assemblies for all of their kindergarten-3rd grade students. Six additional schools in Cleveland and Pittsburgh will launch No Place for Hate® during October.

ADL’s No Place for Hate® is an Initiative that seeks to provide a framework for combating intolerance, bullying and hatred in the schools. Schools who participate in this initiative are required to establish a No Place for Hate® Committee comprised of faculty, administrators, parents, and students, adopt the Resolution of Respect affirming a commitment to respect for diversity and complete at least three anti-bias projects that promote safe and respectful communities for all students. The gymnasiums at Adrian Elementary, Rowland Elementary and Sunview Elementary were filled with excitement as the combined 1200 students geared up for another school year by singing songs about respect, pledging to treat their peers as they themselves would like to be treated, and encouraging each other to take a stand against bullying behaviors.

Representatives from ADL were on hand to present the schools with their 2010 No Place for Hate® banners and distribute balloons and stickers to the students. The assembly at Sunview School in Lyndhurst was taped for a segment on Fox 8 news which aired twice during the week of September 26th. The story can be seen at: http://www.fox8.com/health/parenting/.

No Place for Hate is made possible by generous grants from Giant Eagle and the Patty Klaiman and Alan Rauss Education Fund of The Anti-Defamation League of the Ohio/Kentucky/Allegheny regional office.
