Bearing Witness™
Apply to the Bearing Witness™ Program (pdf)
Bearing Witness™ is a joint professional development program of the Anti-Defamation League, the National Catholic Educational Association, the Archdiocese of Washington, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. This five-day regional conference provides training and resources for Catholic school educators so that they can effectively share the lessons of anti-Semitism, the Holocaust, and modern-day prejudice with their students.
The recipient of NCEA's 2008 President's Award, Bearing Witness™ has trained more than 1,650 Catholic school educators nationally, impacting over 247,500 students across the country. The program is open to Catholic school teachers of history, religion, social studies, and English at the middle and high school level (6th-12th grade), as well as administrators and librarians. The program is funded through generous grants, so participant expenses are minimal. All participants are then eligible to apply for Bearing Witness™ Advanced, a free trip to Israel, to continue their learning.
"The program changed my life, as a Catholic, as a teacher, and as an individual." – Bearing Witness™ participant
"I can’t put into words how much this has meant to me. This has all inspired me to be a better teacher, Catholic, and most importantly, a better person." – Bearing Witness™ participant
