Security Bulletin Sent to Jewish Institutions
Date: November 10, 2009
ADL sent a security bulletin to all Jewish communal institutions, including museums, memorials and federations regarding Eric Hunt, a Holocaust denier with a history of violence. Mr. Hunt has maintained a post office box address in Pennsylvania; however, his current whereabouts are unknown.
Mr. Hunt, of Sussex County, New Jersey, was arrested in 2007 and charged with, among other things, the attempted kidnapping, stalking and battery of Holocaust survival and Noble Laureate Elie Wiesel. In 2008, Eric Hunt was convicted by a San Francisco jury of a hate crime, felony false imprisonment and two misdemeanors. He served time in jail and his probation recently ended.
ADL advised each institution to take a number of general action steps including the consistent review and practice of safety and security procedures and the renewal or establishment of relationships with local law enforcement. ADL's security manual – Protecting Your Jewish Institution - and the ADL regional office can be important resources for security planning.
