ADL Designates Centennial Middle School as No Place for Hate®
Date: January 30, 2012
ADL was proud to designate Centennial Middle School in Miami-Dade County as a No Place For Hate® (NPFH) school on January 27th. Over 300 students participated in a pep rally full of entertainment using NPFH as their theme.
Rev. Dr. Walter T. Richardson spoke to the student body about his own experiences of name-calling and discrimination, and commended the students for making a difference at their school.
In follow up to ADL’s CyberALLY™ training at Centennial Middle School on September 14th, 2011, the students conducted a series of projects titled: stereotypes, anti-bullying poetry slam, and embracing cultures through music in order to be designated. As part of their final activity teachers and students designed a NPFH t-shirt to be worn at the pep rally.
Principal Carballo thanked ADL for the training provided, and for designating the school as No Place for Hate®. The students will be allowed to wear their NPFH t-shirts as part of their uniforms. This program was sponsored by the Harriet and Jack Rosenfeld Foundation.
