Safeguarding the Jewish Community
Date: August 28, 2013
In mid-August, ADL held two high-level security awareness conferences for Jewish institutions in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Nearly 150 people attended both conferences, including representatives from 39 Jewish institutions, 7 law enforcement agencies and several private security companies. Participants learned concrete lessons on how to find the right balance between maintaining a welcoming atmosphere while keeping a security conscious mindset.
These seminars assist clergy, other professionals and lay leaders directly responsible for assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating security policies and procedures. ADL has developed a manual with guidelines for security strategies in today’s dangerous world entitled “Protecting Your Jewish Institution” which can be applied universally to any religious institution.
ADL thanks its conference partners and speakers from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, Aventura Police Department, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Miami Beach Police Department, North Miami Beach Police Department and Technon Tactical.
