ADL Speaks at U.S. Dept. of Justice Hate Crimes Prevention Forum
Date: May 10, 2013
On May 8th David Barkey, ADL Southeastern Counsel, traveled to Daytona Beach, FL to participate in a U.S. Department of Justice program on hate crimes. The impetus for the “Hate Crimes Prevention Forum” was an unsolved February 2012 shooting of a Sikh man in Port Orange, FL, which is being investigated as a hate crime. The program brought together federal and state law enforcement officials, and non-governmental organizations to address a primarily Sikh audience on the nature of hate crimes and how to counter them. Mr. Barkey discussed ADL’s advocacy and work in this area, as well as the unique societal and community impact of bias-motivated crimes.
