ABOUT THIS REGIONAL OFFICE

The Michigan Regional Office serves the Great Lakes State, based in Southfield, Michigan, serving the state Jewish community of 80,000 and the community at large of just over 10,000,000 people. Our six person staff of four professionals and 2 support staff, plus 20 A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute facilitators serve a complicated state that is highly segregated, has the third highest number of hate crimes and a variety of ethnic and minority populations, plus is a very busy border state with Canada. Some of the issues facing the local ADL office are the large Arab/Muslim community of over 400,000 Arabs, the largest population outside the Middle East, an active immigrant population, many active hate groups and white supremacist groups, a very segregated Metropolitan major city and surrounding Detroit suburbs and a failing industrial economy. Poverty and racism in Detroit are central to many of the issues of bias and bigotry in the Metropolitan area and one of the causes of being named the most unsafe community in America.
