2007 Boulder Community Builder Awards Presented

Two hundred people attended ADL’s Boulder Community Builder Awards Luncheon, emceed by ADL Boulder Steering Committee co-chair and Regional Board member Sara-Jane M. Cohen. 

Boulder City Council members Robin Bohannan and Andy Schultheiss received ADL’s Boulder Community Builder Awards for their commitment to inclusivity, highlighted by the instrumental role both played in the passage of the City of Boulder’s historic Hate Crimes Ordinance. ADL Board member and Boulder Steering Committee City Relations Chair William M. Cohen, who was the driving force behind the ordinance, presented the awards to Bohannan and Schultheiss.

Boulder Steering Committee member and Honorary Lifetime National Commissioner Herta Hess Kahn received ADL’s Lifetime Achievement Award. 

In a personal letter that was read and presented to Hess Kahn, National Director Abraham H. Foxman wrote, “Thank you for your remarkable 60 years of dedication to the Anti-Defamation League, to the Jewish people, and to ensuring justice and fair treatment for all. May you have many more healthy years to share your experience and wisdom, may you continue to serve as an example to younger generations, and may you go from strength to strength.”

Former white supremacist, member of The Order, the National Alliance, and Knight of the Ku Klux Klan Tom Martinez delivered a keynote address detailing his exodus from the depths of the hate movement. Other speakers included Honorary Chairs Boulder Mayor Mark Ruzzin and Boulder JCC Executive Director Linda Loewenstein, Mountain States Regional Director Bruce H. DeBoskey and Boulder Community Coordinator Amy M. Stein. Regional Board member and Boulder Steering Committee member Ron Peremel introduced DeBoskey, and Boulder Steering Committee member Simmy Haber acknowledged the many dignitaries in attendance. Haber also thanked the event’s generous sponsors Income Property Specialists, Sloat & Nicholson, P.C., Allied Jewish Federation, the Jared Polis Foundation, and Ball Corporation
