Aurora Public Schools District Working Toward a No Place for Hate® Designation
Date: October 27, 2009
On October 5th, over 200 Aurora Public School (“APS”) District administrators, principals, division heads and district professional and technical staff participated in the first of a two-day professional development anti-bias training. Among those attending was APS’ Superintendent John Barry.
ADL and Aurora Public Schools have maintained a successful partnership for over 5 years. Within that time frame over 700 staff, students, faculty and family members have been trained in A World of Difference® Institute programs. During the 2008-2009 school year, one APS School, Rangeview High School, became APS’ first No Place for Hate® school.
During the 2009-2010 school year, the District encouraged all their schools to work towards this designation, and 5 schools have committed to work towards this distinct designation. Because of this push for individual schools to participate, the APS District Office decided to work towards the same designation. The October 5th training is the first step of that work. The evaluations and response has been quite positive and ADL looks forward to a continued relationship with APS.
