Denver Premiere of "Straightlaced: How Gender's Got Us All Tied Up"
Date: October 27, 2009
On October 22, 2009, over 100 filmgoers attended the Denver premiere of Strightlaced: How Gender’s Got Us All Tied Up, a documentary film produced by GroundSpark. ADL joined with other organizations, including Creating Caring Communities, the Denver Film Society, the GLBT Community Center of Colorado, Facing History and Ourselves, the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Matthew Shepard Foundation and Project PAVE, to introduce the new film to Denver.
The documentary provides middle and high school students and educators an opportunity to explore how popular pressures around gender and sexuality are confining American teens. GroundSpark, based in San Francisco, has created other great documentary resources for schools which ADL has used, including It’s Elementary and Let’s Get Real.
At the Denver premiere, the audience participated in a Q&A and reception with the Director, Debra Chasnoff. Student screenings were planned for the following week with facilitated discussions after each screening. Over 300 students and educators signed up for the screenings.
