ADL Denounces Anti-Semitic Graffiti

Date: September 10, 2008

ADL's New England Region today condemned the anti-Semitic vandalism targeting Temple Beth Shalom in Hull, MA. On Sunday morning, Rabbi Benjamin Lefkowitz discovered a swastika scratched into the front door of the synagogue. The swastika has been painted over, but the community continues to grapple with the effects of the hateful graffiti.

Jonathan Kappel, Interim Director of ADL's New England Office issued the following statement:

"The Anti-Defamation League condemns in the strongest terms the anti-Semitic vandalism targeting Temple Beth Shalom. Such hate has no place here in our communities and runs counter to our values of acceptance and respect for differences. The Nazi symbol of the swastika is offensive to Jews and to the community as a whole."

ADL applauds the quick response of the Hull police department, and will continue to work with the Hull community to implement anti-bias programs that counter hateful acts such as this.
