ADL Part of Local Community Efforts to Expose Dangers of a Nuclear Iran
Date: October 7, 2009
ADL has been involved in a working group of local Jewish organizations, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Thirty Years After and AIPAC, to help raise awareness in both the Jewish and non-Jewish communities about Iran's human rights abuses and the dangers of a nuclear Iran, not just to Israel but to the entire world.
While Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the United Nations on September 23, 2009, events were organized locally and nationally to counteract Ahmadinejad's inflammatory anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric, his constant denial of the Holocaust and to push the UN Security Council to toughen sanctions against the terror-sponsoring Iranian regime.
Locally, ADL and its community partners created a flier, "How to Prevent a Nuclear Iran", providing individuals with action steps to add to the larger-scale efforts. ADL resources were prominently featured and copies of this flier were distributed by more than 20 synagogues in the Los Angeles area during High Holiday services.
Also, a local press conference, sponsored by the entire working group, was held at Los Angeles City Hall on September 24 where representatives of the State of California, and the County and City of Los Angeles, joined together to condemn Iran's continued abuses and to discuss local legislative initiatives.
