ADL Reaches Out to Inland Empire Jewish Institutions after Neo-Nazi Protests

Date: October 15, 2009

Following a protest by The National Socialist Movement (NSM), the largest neo-Nazi group in the U.S., at a Riverside County synagogue during Sabbath services October 2, ADL contacted all Jewish institutions in the Inland Empire area.

ADL provided area synagogues with background information on this extremist group that has recently expanded in Riverside County, as well as the ADL Guide to Counter-Protestors and information about institutional security.

On September 26, the Riverside County NSM chapter held an anti-immigration protest in the City of Riverside where they wore and displayed Nazi regalia.  The eight neo-Nazi protestors were met with nearly 200 counter-protestors, requiring police to stop physical clashes between the two groups.

The group now holds monthly meetings and has reached out to and worked with other white supremacists including "skinheads, Klansmen, and pro-white socialists from all around California."  Because of its virulently anti-Semitic and racist ideology, ADL monitors this group's activities closely.

The following week, a small group of members of the Riverside NSM chapter protested outside of a Riverside synagogue standing near the driveway and waving Nazi flags visible to congregants as they entered and exited the parking lot.

ADL continues to provide local law enforcement with background material about this extremist group.
