USC Student Participates in ADL’s Campus Leadership Study Mission to Israel

Date: September 22, 2009

A University of Southern California senior, Yu Ki (Ritchie) Chan, participated in ADL's Campus Leadership Study Mission to Israel along with 11 other student leaders from across the nation.  Chan serves as Assistant Director of Communications for the undergraduate student government at USC and is a columnist for M-Style Magazine in Xiamen, China.

This 10-day mission over the summer provided future leaders with a first-hand perspective of Israel by meeting with decision-makers, government and military officials, diplomats, journalists, students, and ordinary Israelis, Arab and Jewish, from diverse communities, cultures and backgrounds.  They learned about the strategic and social challenges facing Israel today and toured key places of historical, religious and contemporary interest.

After returning from Israel Chan said, "ADL's campus mission has been one of the greatest experiences in my life. Meeting with policy makers and journalists who share a wide range of views towards Israel and its politics has furthered my understanding towards the complexity of Israel's political issues.

Exploring the country through a first hand experience had also enriched my knowledge about Israel's culture and its people. Sharing insights and opinions with other very intelligent campus leaders made this trip an even more unforgettable experience."
