Holocaust Education

The Pacific Southwest Region hosts in-depth Holocaust education seminars for educators and community members. In the past, ADL and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles have presented Bearing Witness™, an educational workshop to provide Catholic school educators tools to teach about anti-Semitism, the history of Jewish-Catholic relations, the Holocaust, and bigotry in contemporary society.  For nearly thirty years, ADL has also partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District on a Holocaust Education Workshop for public school teachers.

In November 2011, ADL and our various community partners launched a new Holocaust Education Institute, which combines the best resources on teaching the Holocaust for educators in all private, parochial and public schools.  The first session of the Institute was held at the University of Southern California.  Subsequent sessions are at various locations in West Los Angeles.

The Pacific Southwest Region also offers training for and copies of Echoes and Reflections – A Multimedia Curriculum on the Holocaust.  Hundreds of educators from throughout the region have been trained to use Echoes and Reflections, including a few hundred pre-service educators at universities such as UCLA, USC, and Loyola Marymount University.  ADL also assists local schools in finding survivors to speak to students.
