Confronting Anti-Semitism on Campus
Date: August 11, 2009
A group of college-bound Omaha students came to learn the skills they'll need to effectively address anti-Semitism on today's university campus before they head off to school this fall.
Through the interactive workshop, "Confronting Anti-Semitism," the ADL Plains States aims to help young adults challenge old stereotypes and new anti-Israel sentiment. Participants had a chance to learn and practice strategies responding to age-old anti-Semitic stereotypes such as "All Jews are rich." Using role-playing scripts, thought-provoking questions and a lot of humor, facilitators put the students at ease while preparing them for difficult situations they might encounter.
Additionally, the college-bound students learned about increasing anti-Israel activity on campuses including rallies.
"This program is most timely," ADL Regional Director Alan Potash said. "Today's college students need information, support and the tools to protect themselves."
Also available to campus Hillels and student groups is ADL's Fighting Back: A Handbook for Responding to Anti-Israel Rallies on College and University Campuses.
