Institute for Holocaust Education Presents Brundibar
Date: October 7, 2009
The Institute for Holocaust Education (IHE), together with Opera Omaha, is pleased to present Brundibár this fall. The children's opera – a tale of triumph over tyranny – had its first performances in Terezin, a concentration camp near Prague. While its creators perished in Auschwitz, the opera has survived and today, is seen across the globe.
Ela Weissberger, a Holocaust survivor and the original "Cat" in the Terezin Brunibar performances, will speak at the ten student performances (November 2 – 6) and on Saturday, November 7 at the public performance. More than 9,000 school children from greater Omaha are registered to attend.
All Brundibar performances will be at The Rose Theater in Omaha. Tickets for the public performance are $25 for adults and $10 for students (13 years and younger) and are available online at operaomaha.org, by calling (402) 346-7372 or visiting the Opera Omaha box office at 17th and Farnam Streets. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticket Omaha at ticketomaha.org or (402) 345-0606.
