NEOC Building Community of Respect Thanks to ADL Workshop

Date: August 26, 2009

In today's diverse workplace, cultivating respect across differences is a bottom-line imperative, especially for a government agency dedicated to fair treatment. That's why the ADL Plains States Region recently conducted a three-hour "Community of Respect" workshop for the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission (NEOC).

ADL education facilitators helped the 29 NEOC staff and director to explore the impact of life experiences and culture on their own worldviews. In particular, the group discussed how they could improve communication and understanding between their two offices, located in Omaha and Lincoln. Through a series of community-building exercises, participants also learned concrete strategies to make their working environments more inclusive and productive.

NEOC Director Anne Hobbs said of the workshop, "It was a great first step and time well-spent."
