ADL and Words Alive! Collaborate to Bring Holocaust Education Workshop to Educators in Juvenile Court and Community Schools throughout San Diego
Date: December 9, 2011
The Anti-Defamation League San Diego Regional Office partnered with Words Alive!, a non-profit reading advocacy organization that inspires a commitment to reading, to deliver Holocaust education workshops to educators and classroom volunteers of Juvenile Court and Community Schools throughout San Diego county.
Echoes and Reflections is an award-winning Holocaust Education curriculum developed by the Anti-Defamation League, the USC Shoah Foundation Institute, and Yad Vashem. The workshops were crafted to give educators and classroom volunteers the scaffolding for teaching about the Holocaust in preparation of a reading assignment featuring the book Because of Romek by local Holocaust Survivor David Faber and a trip to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.
Educators and volunteers gained an understanding of the pedagogy of teaching the Holocaust such as telling one story or experience at a time and looking at singular events through multiples perspectives.
