ADL San Diego Kicks Off 10th Annual Manhigim Institute
Date: October 22, 2009
Now in its 10th year, the Manhigim Institute kicked off its 2009-2010 program on October 14 – 15. The 44 participants were divided into Wednesday and Thursday classes. Each evening began with a brief parent/student orientation, followed by the first session.
ADL San Diego Professional Staff, along with A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute facilitators, presented a diversity workshop. Activities focused on identity and how it acts as “filters” that influence interactions with others. Students also discussed how bias is manifested in our everyday lives and how it can lead to assumptions about people from dissimilar backgrounds.
One student wrote, "It asked us to really think about our identities, something we normally don't think about."
The workshop was designed to serve as a foundation for the rest of the Manhigim Institute, which will include topics such as media bias, anti-Semitism on College and High School Campuses, Israel advocacy, and Modern Genocide.
