Changing Perspectives of Families
Date: December 13, 2011
The ADL’s Miller Early Childhood Initiative Family and Child Workshop is changing perspectives of family members and preschool-aged children throughout San Diego County, specifically those who attended the recent workshops held at Educational Enrichment Systems- David and Jillian Gilmour Early Education Center and Vista Child Development Center.
On two separate evenings, a total of 20 families gathered to explore the importance of respecting differences in one another through various diversity-related activities. One of the activities conducted, The Face in the Mirror, involves the highlighting and recognition of each participant's unique and special qualities. Children absorbed the idea that being different is good, while the concept of respect is outlined. One parent noted how her child can now “notice the beauty of others, regardless of differences.”
These workshops were made possible through the generous support of the Leichtag Foundation. For more information on our early childhood diversity workshops for families, please contact the ADL San Diego Regional Office.
