Lauren Estrin accepts Braves grant at Turner Field

October 6, 2011 - Atlanta Braves Team with ADL to Fight Bullying through ADL’s No Place For Hate® Campaign

The Anti-Defamation League today welcomed the Atlanta Braves as a major new partner in ADL's No Place for Hate® bullying prevention campaign. At the same time, the Braves Foundation awarded ADL a $5,000 grant to aid in the fight against bullying.

Declaring that "Bullying has gone to a whole new level and the consequences are staggering," Braves President John Schuerholz this week unveiled a series of anti-bullying public service announcements featuring Chipper Jones, Tim Hudson, Brian McCann and Jason Heyward. The spots are in English and Spanish, and initially will be distributed to the more than 100 metro Atlanta schools that participate in ADL No Place for Hate® initiative.

"As one of the Southeast's leading providers of bullying prevention programs for young people, ADL welcomes the commitment the Braves are making to fighting bullying and bigotry," said Bill Nigut, Southeast Regional Director of ADL. "We look forward to working with them to advance our message that there truly is 'No Place for Hate' in schools or online."

Nigut added that having Braves' star players speak out will have a profound impact on kids who look up to great professional athletes like Jones, Hudson, McCann and Heyward.

ADL and the Braves said that the spots will be played as part of the No Place for Hate® assemblies that many schools use to launch the program each year. They will also play on the Turner Field Jumbotron during the baseball season. Braves players and mascots will also be invited to attend the end of the year ceremonies at which schools that have completed their No Place for Hate® projects successfully are awarded the championship banners declaring them "No Place for Hate!"
