Glass Leadership Institute

The Anti-Defamation League's (ADL's) Glass Leadership Institute (GLI) is intended to introduce leaders to the important work of the ADL and the full range of issues on the ADL agenda. The purpose of GLI is to build a base of leaders who, being knowledgeable about the organization's work and committed to ensuring the vitality of the organization, can be effective advocates on behalf of the organization in the community. GLI participants will be presented with the knowledge and skills to effectively confront and combat anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred.

Successful ADL leaders share three common characteristics:

  1. They have a broad understanding of ADL and commitment to its mission
  2. They possess a willingness to make an impact and contribution to the organization, and
  3. They are consistent and meaningful supporters of the organization and its programs

GLI participants will learn about ADL's resources and programs in the following areas:

  • Anti-Semitism: Local, Regional, National & Global Incidents and how ADL Responds
  • Church/State Issues: Faith-Based Initiatives, Religion in Public Schools, and More
  • Creating Anti-Bias Schools, Workplaces & Communities
  • Hate Groups & Extremism --Law Enforcement Resources, Support & Training
  • Security Awareness for Jewish Institutions
  • Fundraising and its role in the ADL

Program Details & Requirements
Monthly meetings serve as a vehicle to educate participants on the full range of issues and programming on the ADL agenda. Programs/events will be held through the year. Most meetings will take place at the ADL office from 6:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. on Wednesdays and will usually include dinner. GLI participants must attend a minimum of five of these meetings in order to graduate from the program.

All GLI participants are encouraged to attend the Shana Glass National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. This conference has been a highlight for many participants. The conference convenes over 400 ADL Board members, professionals and GLI participants from ADL's 30 regional offices in Washington D.C., for 3 days of study and meetings with national leaders on ADL issues. Past speakers include Secretary of State Colin Powell, Israeli Prime Ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert, Senator John McCain, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, and Senator Hillary Clinton, to name a few. The Conference generally occurs in April. Conference fees, hotel and meals are subsidized by ADL.
