10th Anniversary Edition of Resource Guide Makes its Debut

Date: October 20, 2009

The Southwest Region' 10th Anniversary Resource Guide, If We Could End Hatred Imagine What More We Could Do will officially debut November 4, at ADL's 2009 Torch of Liberty Dinner honoring Rochelle Merfish Jacobson and the Children' Defense Fund Texas.

The colorful new guide contains some new features, including a page on recognizing and responding to Cyberbullying, a self-assessment of anti-bias behavior entitled "Challenging Your Own Biases," and an explanation of how hate begins with thoughts and words and can grow into violence, symbolized by ADL's Pyramid of Hate.  The guide also includes traditional features, such as the Resolution of Respect, step-by-step instructions on how to become No Place for Hate® or a Community of Respect™, more than 100 ways to promote diversity and counteract bias, a calendar of religious and cultural observances, and a glossary of those observances.

"Over the years," said ADL Regional Director Martin B. Cominsky, "this guide has been used in hundreds of places, including schools, businesses, municipal governments, community organizations, and religious institutions.  All have used it to create an atmosphere in those places that promotes diversity and fights hatred, and we hope it will continue to be used that way.  We are very proud of this guide, and even more excited that this is the 10th year it will be used and valued by so many people in our region."

You can download a copy of the guide (pdf) from this web site, or order printed copies of the guide from ADL's Southwest Regional Office at 713-627-3490, or ADL's Austin Office at 512-249-7960.
