2008 Torch of Liberty Honorees Draw Big Crowd
Date: August 22, 2008
ADL's 2008 Torch of Liberty Dinner already has raised nearly $500,000 and received reservations for more than 800 attendees.
ADL will proudly present its 2008 Torch of Liberty Award to one of our community's most beloved families, the Naomi Warren family, November 20, and its Julie and Ben Rogers Ecumenism Award to Holocaust Museum Houston that same evening.
Formal invitations for the event will go out in a few days. ADL Regional Director Martin B. Cominsky says he's sure the popularity of this year's dinner is due to the honorees. "So many people know and love Naomi Warren, her children Helen Spector, Benjamin Warren, and Geri Roper, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all mean so much to Houston and members of our community. I'm not surprised so many people want to join us in honoring them, and another institution they are close to: Holocaust Museum Houston."
Each year, ADL's Torch of Liberty Award is given to a community leader or leaders who exemplify a commitment to promoting respect, counteracting hatred and bigotry, and supporting fair treatment for all citizens. "As a Holocaust survivor," Cominsky says, "Naomi Warren knows how important it is to fight hatred in all its forms, and her family knows that as well. That is why they are so supportive of ADL."
ADL's Julie and Ben Rogers Ecumenism Award goes annually to an individual or organization for work in furthering greater harmony and cooperation in our communities, and that is part of the mission of Holocaust Museum Houston. "We are always happy to be associated with Holocaust Museum Houston in any way, and it is a privilege for us to honor the Museum," Cominsky adds.
Tickets for the Torch of Liberty Dinner include individual tickets for $375, sponsor tickets for $500, or table sponsorships ranging from $3750 to $100,000. For more information, call the ADL’s office at 713-627-3490.
