ADL to Present Texas College Officials with Guide on Effective Responses to Campus Bigotry
Date: November 18, 2008
College and University officials in Texas and throughout the country will soon have ADL's Responding to Bigotry and Intergroup Strife on Campus Guide to help them in their ongoing work to make their campuses, and the larger community, a better and more fruitful place for all us to work and work.
On some campuses today, Texas campuses included, students, faculty and staff are subjected to verbal and physical harassment based on their actual or perceived race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or other identity groups. Currently some campuses in the state are dealing with racist incidents prompted by the presidential election.
Building upon its long history and experiences in combating all forms of bigotry on and off campus, ADL produced the second edition of this guide to provide comprehensive assistance to leaders of the academic community. The Guide provides legal background and analysis for campus scenarios relevant to free speech, bias and diversity. The Guide also includes examples of presidential statements that have proven useful responses in similar scenarios.
For more information on the guide, call ADL's Southwest Regional Office at 713-627-3490.
