Houston-area No Place for Hate® Project Coordinator Speaks to Katy Council
Date: November 17, 2008
Southwest Region No Place for Hate® Project Coordinator Larry Ting recently presented the No Place for Hate® campaign to the Katy Independent School District (ISD) Council of Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs). Held at Schmalz Elementary School, the council meeting was composed of about 70 PTA parents and principals from nearly all schools in the Katy ISD as well as the superintendent from that district.
After a 20-minute presentation to the council, Ting answered questions from parents and principals. Many had not heard of No Place for Hate®, and were extremely enthusiastic about the idea. Some school representatives even met to discuss current activities that could be counted toward the designation, and plan future activities.
"Larry’s presentation really seemed to strike the right note with the Katy Council and most of the individuals who attended our meeting," said Janine Gorell, member of the Katy Council of Parent Teacher Associations. "They appeared to be very interested in learning about No Place for Hate® and many were eager to find out more about it and to talk about how it might be implemented at their individual campuses."
Ting said the reception from the Katy Council was "overwhelmingly positive," and he is confident the Katy Independent School District will be able to implement No Place for Hate® on many campuses.
