Numbers of Austin Area No Place for Hate® Schools Increasing
Date: January 20, 2012
More than 200 schools and after-school programs in the Austin area are striving for No Place for Hate® designations this 2011-2012 school year, making it a record year for No Place for Hate® in central Texas.
Austin's No Place for Hate® initiative began during the 2004-2005 school year with just four schools. The program has grown almost exponentially every year, and each year more and more students are taking the lead at their campuses, with the help and guidance of dedicated educators and tools provided by ADL, to make their schools safer, more inclusive, and more respectful for everyone.
Austin's 200-plus schools together with Houston's more than 300 schools will take the Southwest Region's No Place for Hate® campaign to over 500 campuses and programs participating. It's hard to believe the region's initiative began with only 10 schools just over 10 years ago.
"I’m very proud of what No Place for Hate® has become, and what it has meant for campuses all over central and southeast Texas," said ADL Regional Director Martin B. Cominsky. "I applaud my staff and lay leaders for coordinating the program, but more than that, I congratulate and value all the students, teachers, and administrators who give their time and effort to make the initiative work."
