Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church
Date: March 31, 2008
Houston's Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church became the first faith institution to be named a Community of Respect™ in 2008, at a special event before morning services on Sunday, March 30.
Church members signed a Community of Respect™ pledge, viewed themselves in a special Lucite art display containing information about hate, prejudice and bias, and talked about how to participate in the Community of Respect™ program going forward.
Among the activities church members participated in to qualify for the Community of Respect® designation: Dialogue: Racism; A Raising of Voices Vigil Against Hate Crimes; and several Freedom to Marry Week activities.
The church joins a number of faith institutions that became Communities of Respect™ in 2007: Congregation Beth Israel, Congregation Brith Shalom, Faith Lutheran Church, and the Presbytery of New Covenant Center.
