Walter Kase Teacher Excellence Awards Judging Begins in Houston
Date: January 20, 2009
Judging has started for the Walter Kase Teacher Excellence Awards, which recognize three Region IV educators who have either created or implemented programs on their campuses that promote an understanding of and respect for diversity. The judges are examining applications and narrowing down the field of teachers, administrators and student support service staff members who have:
- Emphasized diversity by making it an integral part of the curriculum
- Challenged students to question stereotypes and examine their own prejudices as well as those of society
- Empowered students to reject hate in all its forms
Past recipients of the award have created district-wide diversity conferences, sponsored student organizations that created teacher trainings designed to fight bias and prejudice, and worked with students to create a mini-museum portraying the history of the Holocaust and teaching its important lessons.
The Walter Kase Teacher Excellence Awards will be given at a luncheon in May in Houston. For more information, call the ADL's Southwest Regional Office at 713-627-3490.
