Ten Chicago Public School Juniors to Participate in National ADL Conference

Date: November 2, 2009

The Greater Chicago/Upper Midwest Region has selected five juniors from Senn High School and five juniors from Sullivan High School to participate in a national ADL conference in Washington, D.C. The 12th Annual ADL Grosfeld Family National Youth Leadership Mission to the nation's capital will take place from November 15th – 18th and will bring together 100 students from across the country to learn about the Holocaust and how to apply the lessons of the past to current issues of racism and intolerance in their schools and communities.

The students will visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum where they will learn about the history and meaning of the Holocaust; the students will also hear testimonials from survivors and others who witnessed Nazi atrocities firsthand; and they will learn about modern-day efforts to bring perpetrators of other genocides to justice. The students will also explore the consequences of unchecked hate, probe their own attitudes, and discuss prejudice and hate in their own lives through facilitated sessions of ADL's A World of Difference® Institute.

Following their visit to Washington D.C., the students will create a follow-up program that will positively impact their communities.
