The Bearing Witness™ Program
ADL's award-winning The Bearing Witness™ Program is a unique 3 1/2 day intensive professional development workshop for Catholic school educators from the Chicagoland area.
The program focuses on the history of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust, addressing issues of diversity, prejudice, and bigotry in contemporary society and teaching these topics in a Catholic school setting.
The curriculum for this educational seminar was developed in 1996 by the Anti-Defamation League in partnership with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., and in cooperation with the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) and the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.
The Bearing Witness™ Program was recognized by NCEA as a 2000 SPICE program (Selected Programs for Improving Catholic Education). Working in partnership with the Archdiocese of Chicago, over 20 Catholic educators attended the first regional Bearing Witness Conference in the summer of 2007.
"The Church must continue to confront issues raised, both historical and moral, by the Shoah, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do this together with the Jewish community…we value the partnership with the Anti-Defamation League."
--Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago
