Unity Through Diversity
Unique to the Chicago region is the Unity Through Diversity conference, which convenes hundreds of high school students and educators from diverse backgrounds to learn to fight bigotry and devise strategies to combat and rid their schools and communities of hate.
Last year's conference was attended by nearly 700 teens and adults. The emcee for the event was NBC5 Chicago's morning anchor, Zoraida Sambolin and the keynote speaker was Dr. Terrence Roberts, one of the nine African-American students who risked their lives to attend a formerly segregated public high school, Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
"Due to this conference, I will purposely provide opportunities for my students to engage in diversity activities."
"I will continue to self-reflect and challenge myself and others to broaden their horizons."
